What is a 'Home' For?

What is a "home" you need for? It is a place for you to stay? It is for your business? Or it is simply just for your investment? And what are the facilities we need to consider in choosing a 'home' for  your website?

 

Facility Description
Space The amount of storage space on the hard disk
Control Panel An application which is given to the owner of the web site (or a person who authorized) to perform administrative tasks of the site, such as DNS settings, user settings, passwords, etc. This control panel is usually provided in a form that can be accessed by the web browser (web based).
Unlimited data transfer The unlimited in-and-out of transfer data of the website. (do not be misunderstood with bandwidth capacity).
Sub Domain Sub-domain is a "inherited" names of your own domain name. If you have domains www.cobacoba.com (can also be written as cobacoba.com), then the sub-domain might be: sedang.cobacoba.com, mau.cobacoba.com, etc.
POP Email To access email using the usual applications such as Eudora, Netscape.
WebMail Email facility which can be accessed via a web browser (Firefox, Opera, Safari, Microsoft Explorer, etc.). YahooMail, GMail, Hotmail, etc. are good examples of a web-based email.
E-mail Autoresponder Email response facility that is done automatically. The content of the email replies can be adjusted by the owner of the domain name.

SSL     Secure Socket Layer is the protection of the contents of a site with a ruffled transferred data communications over the Internet. Highly recommended at all for security critical data and confidential on e-commerce sites, such as credit card numbers, bank account, etc.
CGI-Bin is a folder on the server that usually contains application modules that can be accessed by the user. These applications are usually created by using PERL, C, PHP, etc., programming language.
CGI-Form A facility that uses an application form, which was usually provided in the CGI-Bin folder.
Guestbook CGI Guest Book facility, so that visitors can fill out and read the impressions, comments, or suggestions from other visitors about our site.
FrontPage Extension An additional application that allows a site using MS FrontPage application to run in accordance with the design. This facility is usually required when the site was designed using MS FrontPage application.
Shopping Cart Its function is similar to the stroller of groceries  when we go shopping at the supermarket.
Database Application  server Database application servers such as MySQL, Oracle, etc. It is used when a site need a database to support its operations.
The programming language supported these facilities are usually required, especially for those whose job as a web developer. Common language used is usually PERL, C, PHP, Python, etc.
Virtual Domain In addition to domain names that we have it, we can also create another domain name placed only on one server. This facility is only required for the web developer.
Mailing List Group communication using email as the means, and usually led by a moderator
Counter     Facilities counters that count the number of visitors to our site.
